SAFETY AT HOME

ALLERGY

Ensure you and your little helpers always wear garden gloves when handling the trees. Some people may get a mild allergic reaction. Christmas trees are a natural product and when bought from a reputable company through a reputable retailer will have been treated, if needed, with food grade chemicals as a necessity.

ELECTRICITY

Be careful when placing your tree, remember water and electricity do not mix! Ensure that any electrical plugs, wall lights or spotlights are visible and cannot be watered by mistake or where water can drip onto them.

Ensure your lights are in good order.

Ensure wiring is not placed where children or pets can get at them.

FIRE HAZARDS

Christmas trees are a natural product, after a while even in a cool house they will dry out.

NEVER put trees near to naked flames of any kind.

NEVER use lit candles or oil fuelled lights on trees.

NEVER put trees close to naked light bulbs.

NEVER leave hot lights on trees unattended.

NEVER place trees where they can block a Fire Exit.

ALWAYS ensure that the base is stable.

ALWAYS ensure that wires cannot be tripped over.

ALWAYS place in a waterproof container.

If a tree does catch fire never try to extinguish with water and call the Fire Brigade immediately.
