Noble Fir - Serbian Spruce - Blue Spruce

Noble Fir

Noble Fir

Noble Fir (Abies procera / Abies nobilis)

Originally from the North West coast of the United States, this tree still grows widely in the Rocky Mountains. Noble Fir has a pleasing blue/green colour and a pleasant fragrance. Because it is difficult to grow it is not produced in large numbers therefore availability is limited. However, when at its best it displays all the characteristics of the perfect Christmas tree. Choose those with a strong blue colour, they can look really stunning in your home.

Serbian Spruce (Picea omorika)

A close relative of Norway Spruce, this tree is best known for its two-tone foliage colour. Whilst the needles are green on the upper surface, they are blue underneath. This gives the tree an attractive blue/green appearance.

Serbian Spruce originates from the Drina River Valley in Serbia and Eastern Bosnia.

As Serbian Spruce naturally grows in colder climates than Norway Spruce and flushes into growth later, it is often grown in areas affected by late frosts which may cause damage to Norway Spruce. It naturally produces a dense, narrowly shaped tree.

Blue Spruce (Picea pungens 'Glauca globosa')

This tree is very popular as a small Pot grown tree due to its shape and colour. The needle colour ranges from grey-green to a bright, glaucous blue with an extremely sharp tip.

Blue Spruce is native to western North America but has limited use as a cut Christmas tree due to the sharp spiky needles. Because of these sharply pointed needles we do not recommend it as suitable for homes with pets and small children.

Blue Spruce was the traditional festive tree used in Germany for many years.
